Susan Short

Susan Short is an English artist known for her dramatic woodcuts of landscapes and urban vistas. Studied at Manchester, then later for an MA at Wimbledon School of Art. She lives in London.

Drawings and photographs are made on site and, along with observations and memories, are then developed in the studio. The source materials are used to give a sense of place and atmosphere. For example, Nature Lover was inspired by the calming experience of walking among trees. The impression made by the woodblock references the wood of the trees. Being an organic material every piece of wood is different and the block with most appropriate grain is chosen according to the effect desired. Wood is difficult to cut and print but brings a unique texture and quality to the image.

She has had work in many exhibitions, including the Mall Galleries, Cork Street Open, Bankside Gallery, and has been selected several times for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

An elected member of the Society of Graphic Fine Artists, and Greenwich Printmakers Association.
